The works will be presented to a broad expert audience and the Berlin public from 18.10. - 3.11. 2008 during the main activities of the Media Facades Festival Berlin 2008.
The Four Media Facades in Berlin
1. SAP media facade in the Rosenthaler Straße in Mitte
2. O2 World media facade in Friedrichshain
3. Night screen at the Gasometer in Schöneberg
4. The fourth facade will be announced soon
For details and description of locations and technology see under facades.
The Workshop and Urban Screenings
A three day workshop in July for selected participants will be organised to prepare for the two production phases. We will discuss the cultural, political, social, but also commercial role and the particular character of the four different urban screens. Each participant will then develop one specific project for one of the four facades. The first results will be tested by the participants for feasibility in an early test screening.
Experiences and observation of the audience’s reaction during the final screenings will publicly be discussed in a panel discussion during the Art Forum Berlin and will be summarised in a publication.
Criteria
Participants should show interest in exploring this new medium in public space in terms of content, form, spatiality and local relation. Application as a team is possible yet counts as one participant. The goal of the 3-day workshop is to discuss the hurdles and the potential of the medium and to further examine the locations as well as the interests of those concerned. Submission should be in the line of the curatorial framework of the Festival. Applicants should have a base in Berlin and have to be present during the key dates. Each of the up to 16 selected participants will get an overall budget of 1000 Euros. The operators of the selected facades have assured special technical advice and support concerning their facade infrastructure.
Due to possible uneven selections of preferred facades, you might have to accept to adjust your project idea to another facade.
