Dr. Mo

Addicted to video from the age of 10, London based VJ dr.mo has had a long-term interest in lens-based media: music videos, short films and photography. His video art incorporates imagery from around the world. Shooting and editing his own material, dr.mo’s unique style is a combination of fast moving footage, photographic stills, video mosaics, collages and time lapse sequences.

Dr.mo has been performing regularly at the Big Chill festival, Burning Man and Digital City parties. He has VJ’ed at clubs such as Cargo, 333, The Vibe Bar, 93 Feet East, Tresor (Berlin), the Remote Lounge (New York), Roxy Bar & Screen and is currently a resident at the London club nights SoxaN and Dirter.

During his live visual performance dr.mo will draw on material that he has shot and manipulated himself using a number of post-production techniques. Specifically, two of these deserve a mention as they cover new ground in terms of how video and photography can be combined:  video mosaics and time lapse style stop-motion. Dr.mo’s  video mosaics are slow-panning panoramas generated by combining many individually shot video sequences into one. This yields beautifully smooth but intricate atmospheric backdrops. In contrast, his stop-motion method uses photography with continually changing camera viewpoints to produce exhilarating visual flights and breathtaking perspective shifts.

Much of dr.mo’s material has been gathered on travels to Europe, America and Asia. Most of the rest is shot in London; a city that offers almost unlimited scope for finding interesting buildings, textures, streets, spaces and colours.
